I know what you’re thinking now– That’s a bold if not egregious statement. Considering the historic and horrific historical context Oskar Schindler resided in during the Holocaust.
I also wanna say, this is not an attack on Craigslist or Mr. Newmark in any way whatsoever. Quite the contrary actually. For both man I have admiration for after learning much in study. One many years ago, the other most recently. Mr.Newmark.
And just wait until you hear I think Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg is similar to ancient famous childhood ruler– Josiah, who is credited by most historians with having established or compiled important Jewish scriptures during the Deuteronomic reform that occurred during his rule.
Have you ever wondered why some ancient great societies had very young childhood rulers? I suspect it was not solely because of hierarchy or bloodline or rights to the thrown in some cases. But rather it because their society, culture, technology, to a drastically needed change in rule. mainly due to rampant sudden change via an explosive exponential growth phase/paradigm at that given time in history. And the children were the only ones capable of dealing with/using the new standards/laws/ technology at the time. So that is why they were rulers so young. NOW…here is where the food for thought comes in – Kids today sure are a whizzzzzzzzzzzz with computers and technology… yes?
To really have grasp, you must have understanding of Great Society Cyclical-ity in the course of humanity.
And that most great societies of the past, before their collapse, usually reverted back to some of the ways of their infancy in govt and societal degeneration.
Example the ancient Romans. The orgies the pedophilia. They had brutal gladiators (society degenerates’ who became heroes…how many of them we know today…lol) fight to the DEATH for their entertainment in society. Enter the sport that’s all but officially replaced boxing today> UFC MMA style fighting events in our entertainment in prime time TV. So brutal that they actually choke and beat each other unconscience. Only for ratings to increase = cheer of the arena mob!
It’s only a matter of time before we see that escalate to a pay per view “fight to the death” event in our entertainment. That will be born from the process of the privatization of the prison systems in the world. When you take the the ”State” out of correction and rehabilitation and give it to the” Corporation” whose sole intent is bottom line profit seeking and not rehabilitation. Human rights will and have suffered. There is cases of private run prisons cutting meals to twice a day from three to save money. If you can’t see this. I dont know what else to type. When the time comes the the ”sentenced writ of the prisoner” belonging to the corporation. And the corporation can negotiate a no liability deal with a sentenced to die prisoner for benefits to be paid to living kin$. Who can’t see that coming!?
Tattoos, genital piercings, and body modifications (that are in essence tribal warrior markings of the ancient world) Once taboo and shunned in our society, are making a rampantly acceptance comeback in soceity…yes?
The ancient Roman society was prevalent with open homosexuality. Here below is a note I wrote one night while online:
”I just got done flipping through some Internet porn. I have to tell ya, I’m concerned greatly. The girls and their guy counterparts are noticeably younger than the last few years. Dramatically young-looking! I just can’t for the life imagine that these beautiful girls must do some of that heinous stuff/acts to make a buck. Are the jobs looking that bad in USA for younger folks?”
I replied to this below when posted December 18,2010 at 3:40pm:
Dane R. Grams wrote: “Don’t Ask Don’t Tell Repealed. It’s about time.”
Steve replied: ”The ancient Roman Army Legions had prevalent open homosexuality amongst it’s ranks and in it’s society towards it’s later demise. Today’s vote on open gays in the military is a testament to social cyclicality of great societies present and past. It is logical and makes total sense. See notes and further examples below. All great societies revert back the ways of their infancy before collapse.”
Deborah Holt Wrote: ”What’s up with men wearing fur coat and louis vuitton bag?!lol”
Steve- “It’s the return of the PIMP look from the 1970′s Deb…lol
It’s bigger and deeper than that though….
A testament/example of how societies are cyclical (everything returns back around eventually) like we’re now seeing men wearing earrings in both ears.
It’s also an example of societies evolution to a metrosexual if not unisex culture. Humans will not in the future even need the opposite sex to procreate/reproduce. And I aint talking Test Tube Babies or in vitro fertilization either….Just some food for thought”
I wrote a blog once entitled : Dead or Alive, who are five the people you would like to have dinner with and why?
One of selections was Oskar Schindler. I wanted to ask him–”at what exact moment or action in his life or the current society at time, did he decide the greater good of humanity was bigger then your own self-gratification reasons?”
Schindler like myself believed — “if you can save or change just one life, you can save the world” — Because you never know what that person(s) is going to do in life, and those they will also affect among they way. The Secret Colonel KFC spice of life is — The combination of Butterfly Effect, The Grapevine Theory, Exponential Technology & Medicine Growth as species, and longevity of species to eventual immortality if we choose….while checking population growth along the way (good stock plays there I have)…… all wrapped up in one!
Generations of humans are alive today because of what Schindler choose to do in the interest greater unto himself in history….what will you do?
The writer Herbert Steinhouse, who interviewed Schindler in 1948 at the behest of some of the surviving Schindlerjuden (Schindler’s Jews), wrote:
“Oskar Schindler’s exceptional deeds stemmed from just that elementary sense of decency and humanity that our sophisticated age seldom sincerely believes in. A repentant opportunist saw the light and rebelled against the sadism and vile criminality all around him.”
I’m also NOT stating we’re on a planned path of some great mass genocidal action. We might be! — I don’t know….do you?
But my purpose with this article (do call it that or a blog?….I have to think about that some more) is to at least assimilate the resemblance in theory. For that’s what I am – A strategist, theorist, outside the box dweller.
I hope most reading this, will have the intellect to know:
Oskar Schindler (28 April 1908 – 9 October 1974) was an ethnic German industrialist born in Moravia. He is credited with saving almost 1,200 Jews during the Holocaust by employing them in his enamel ware and ammunitions factories, which were located in what is now Poland and the Czech Republic respectively. He is the subject of the novel Schindler’s Ark, and the film based on it, Schindler’s List.
Once, says author Eric Silver in The Book of the Just, “Two Gestapo men came to his office and demanded that he hand over a family of five who had bought forged Polish identity papers. ‘Three hours after they walked in,’ Schindler said, ‘two drunk Gestapo men reeled out of my office without their prisoners and without the incriminating documents they had demanded’”. He would, for instance, claim that certain unskilled workers were essential to the factory and the war effort. (Put 300,000 people to work in the USA, in two months time with no more than a signature of pen!
) < Good read here!
The Great Egyptian Pheroes did built them useless pyramids to honor themselves, they did so to save themselves in society at the time…they did so to keep the growing mass(out growing) people busy and with purpose. The Great Wall of China, The Hover Dam, The Eisenhower HighWay Project, etc.
Is Craigslist not a centralized harnessed online network of communities, with a virtual data mine of people’s personal skill sets and aptitude and worthiness or worthlessness to the human species and society today? I would say yes! And the cost of you, for most on list have a price for something or other…..yes?
Done so FREE online classified ads – devoted to job seeker and those offering them? Including housing, personals, for sale items, barter services, community events, etc. His battle to fend off eBay and others over the years.
And the longtime non-commercial and non avarice nature of Craig Newmark also a relevant point to thesis….yes? (I so dig this guy BTW)
He was the first to have guts to step up and build business and stand in front of it while obsolete folks in society were coming after him for putting them out of work. Newspaper industry. It wasnt personal or planned. he just happen to be in right place in right time. Kinda Like Ron Reagan in his time of our developement. It wasnt so much his policies as what was happening in both world and economic and technology.
On August 13, 2004, auction giant eBay had purchased a 25% stake in the company from a former principal (That guy was major sell out chump). Some fans of Craigslist have expressed concern that this development will affect the site’s longtime non-commercial nature, but it remains to be seen what ramifications the change will actually have. As of September 2010 there have been no substantive changes to the usefulness or non-advertising nature of the site—no banner ads, charges for a few services provided to businesses.
Does Mr.Newmark see now what Schindler seen then? I see it as well. Our existence as a species suffering ill society effects of rampant industrialization then(Germany), and exponential technology growth and automation and ever corporate profit seeking now, coupled with other things in world as well.
Are we just at an inconvenient point if not “layover spot” on the cusp of the next evolutionary leap upwards as a species. Because that’s EXACTLY where we are!
That point is where the exponential gains of technology and medicine, have overtaken the human species now in benefits. Those as simple as onetime–”Just to make mans daily life a little easier” (Tesla). And is in essence hindering the daily function (economy sustaining employment, vital nat resources, etc) more than helping it (no too long ago in fact) A call it;
Going from the rotary phone to the iPhone, just in our vivid memorable lifetime–I always say. (see law of accelerating returns notes at end)
Technological change so rapid and profound it represents a rupture in the fabric of human history and current society that does not support in transitions.
Can the amount of future job creation keep pace with the rising life expectancy and exponential advancements in technology? What is the remedy if jobs can not be created quick enough? Give people a check/stipend/money? That expires if not spent in certain time, thus to prevent hoarding and to drive consumerism or investment in the markets? Wow…that sounds familiar!
“It may be that our role on this planet is not a worship a God, but to create IT”~ Sir Arthur Charles Clarke
…That’s an interesting and fascinating concept when you think of the harnessed collective consciousness the Internet has brought to our species….yes? And the never ending exponential advancements in technology and where that will take us with regards to religion. The conquring of the human multi human language communication barrier via translation and voice recognition software.
The Almighty Voice From Above…might someday be the best of our collective gene pool…who emigrated off of this planet either in the future or in it’s past!
Sure sounds an awful lot like the Biblical Rapture to me. Selecting those only worthy. Maybe based up their personal skill sets and IQ’s, via their online algorithmic comprised persona.
May the Force be with you!
Funny how yawning is contagious?
I was on Facebook not too long ago. And someone posted a YAWN as their status. Within a few minute about 8-10 replied –”thanks alot…now you have me doing it”. They’ve done studies as to why. It’s still a great mystery really why when you see or HEAR someone yawning, you often do the same. Even if you’re not tired per se.
I thought it funny and utterly fascinating that yawning is now contagious via the Web/Internet. Just one more testament to the harnessed collective consciousness the web has brought to the human species. Some studies have shown yawing is phermonal….that shoots that theory I say! Also look at what social media has done to spur revolutions in some areas of the world (it all started w/ them spur of the moment 5000 person snowball fights that broke out at first in USA….lol)
And there is even a hedge fund trading off of you online >
I like Mr.Newmark believe the Internet should be free to all. I firmly believe the orderly function of the human species forward depends of that. So will be the end of online identification cloaked anonymity (aka aliases) in the near future (all social media is is SHORT trade on that at first ya know…Facebbok even before they IPO) It will be as quite as church mouse on Sunday and business stifled at first. FB might end up being the USA’s the “national online digital registry” to an extent at some point. India is currently undergoing this process. Not to mention the cashless society that is coming like freight train. By necessity–and not soon enough I say! It is one of the single most needed things for Americans right now with all these social support programs we will be needing to stay off civil unrest.
Below is a thesis of why now more than ever is the time for Apple $AAPL to make a “cross market meshing if not societal morphing”, acquisition so to speak. One with a pretty visible revenue stream to come. One that is in the “societal sweet spot” going forward. Apple should BUY Visa Inc (V) on that premise!
Apple in my opinion needs to start making smart acquisitions that will replace a plateau in R&D that is coming. And for sure a plateau of its market and life altering market impactful release into society/world. And margin contraction issues to come as well. And possible Anti Trust issues as well. Maybe a hologram related company also. Maybe even a cellular provider or satellite company. Take that out of future margin contraction equation. I also feel the same for a major school textbook publisher for it’s already in place licensing and “jumped hurdles” into the future education of America’s children. That consist of elementary and higher degree Schooling being done at home via the Web and your devices. This is just the case in very developed countries. For we are not at same pace in societal development as the rest of world is. We shot our load so to speak and are now paying the piper. Or need to take the painful necessity step to lead the future. That Time is here right now!
The Teachers Union issues and the matters regarding tenure and performance evaluations after five years, is really irrelevant, if not moot point going forward. On the notion that schooling as we know it now, will not exist in about 5 years time. It’s going the way of the 8-Track tape so to speak. Obsolete! Maybe even sooner, due to the many drastic State budgetary issues to come. The exponential advancements in technology, making it not only possible, but highly probable!
Elementary academic education will be done at home via the WEB and Biometric Identity Proximity Sensors and it software (I call them > digital truancy officers…Near Feild Comm Device) They will ensure that the children are actually the ones at the computer, getting the “STATE” pre-approved curriculum.(If they can make ya stick a needle if your kid w/ an untested and time proven vaccine…they can make you do this) Combined with the spontaneous and instantaneous search availability to solve any of the minds mystery that arise during the lesson (GOOGLE). Children today are getting smarter and smarter at a younger and younger age. That aint happening for no reason you now! It is the product of exponential technology growth. It started in high gear when kids started getting ErectorSets and Speak&Spells rather than Baby-dolls, Suzy Home Maker kitchen sets, and socks (lol..I used to hate getting socks). I am of the contention, that besides some of the “philosophies of life”, children today can not be taught things they either already don’t know, or can learn alot better and more efficiently on their own. With the tools and the “cut loose leash” to explore ideas that might spur in the process. One can not argue that children of today are more technology proficient, than ever before. Not to mention the rate at which that industry advancing, in both innovation and design, is making most of what children learn (besides on the basic fundamentals of reading and math) obsolete before it can be applied towards a career field. Does it really take 8 years of daily ritual school attendance to teach a kid to read and right and some math?
By going to an ALL cashless society would generate a “digital paper trail” per se. To have a FLAT TAX, Consumption TAX, Usage FEE, or whatever ya terminology ya wanna “lipstick” it with –levied on the goods & services accordingly and automatically. One that’s not hindered by political boundaries (ie the different States of the nation and countries of the world) Not to mention the micro managing and real time demand statics/data that could come from this move (I wrote a piece about doing away w/ The National Census on the same basis). And the necessary instantaneous adjustments demographically in needed.
This will in essence be the Coup de Grace’ of the CASH/Underground Economy. These are the individuals and businesses that operate and live their lives on a cash basis, to avoid paying any taxes at all. At first we will see an upsurge/uprise of the barter system for those who will continue to fight it so to speak. The pimps, drug dealers, prostitutes, will make you go buy their weakly groceries for goods and services.
By taking CASH out of society and going to a debit card/device paying culture, would stuff the IRS coffers like we’ve never seen or thought possible!
And w/ VISA it is alllllllllllll about the cashless society going forward. BUT NOW IS THE TIME TO STRIKE/make the move. It’s good for the broad market and our USA economy as well. Timing is everything….for Apple is now treading water @ $350! They have $60bb in cash. That is not good thing to have in this environment. And They’re not sharing CASH hoard w/ shareholder who enter here in form of div. And at $350 a share it is alot of ones working capital to lay dead for little upside and more downside theoretical risk. And to those who are long with nice gains in…That is dangerous for shareholders not getting a div at least to be here. I think all that cash and lack of MAJOR imitative M&A is hurting $AAPL stock performance of late. They need some shock and awe!
If Apple were to buy Visa Inc. It would be like a EBay owning a Pay Pal.
And can Apple afford to do this? Damnnnn skippy they can afford it! A little cash and a little stock. And a stock split in
$AAPL the same day they announces deal to merge/acquire VISA. Apple then can take a shot at becoming the worlds first TRILLION DOLLAR market cap company. I am telling ya….it’s the “deal of all deals” for Apple and it’s shareholders right now. It also stifles anti trust talk cause they will be more so than ever to big to mess with!
To most around the Globe (and maybe beyond someday…ya really never know with explosive exponential technology growth) > The Visa brand logo equates to “universal” payment acceptance!
When I think of Apples success over the last decade. I’m reminded of what I’ve studied about RCA (Radio Corporation of America) And the societal and market implementations and implications it had in its time. A time that was in a technological infancy of the great things to come. Most at the time were saying “it (RCA) was going to take over the WORLD!” It was in existence from 1919 to 1986. In 1930, the U.S. Department of Justice filed antitrust charges against RCA, General Electric and Westinghouse (That is so crazy considering the US Navy and GE set up and spun off RCA many years earlier) As a result, GE and Westinghouse had to give up their ownership interests in RCA. RCA was allowed to keep the radio factories, and GE and Westinghouse were allowed to compete in that business only after 30 months passed. RCA) was Wall Street’s and Main Streets “best gal” high-flying tech-stock of the Roaring 1920s. It made many investors and speculators millionaires. It was in essence a monopoly on “wireless communications for the masses.” And not a serious competitor was anywhere in sight at the time.
In the five years before the Crash of 1929, RCA stock soared from about $11 to its September 1929 high of $114 (adjusted for the 5:1 stock split in Feb of that fatal year). That’s an appreciation of 935% in only five years! That equates to an annual compound return of a monumental 60%! Also it never paid a cash dividend. Market players didn’t care, because the stock value increased almost on a daily basis. At its 1929 peak RCA boasted an astronomical PE ratio of 72:1. <span>From 1929 and the stocks top of $114, over the next three years the stock price dropped to less than $3 (-97%) per share in 1932.
The Four Types of People
The Law of Social Cycles states that while people in any society are all relatively similar – we all have generally the same goals, desires and ambitions – we differ in the way we go about achieving our goals. An ind…ividual’s specific methods for achieving success depend on his physical and psychological makeup. Essentially, there are four different types of people who find basic fulfillment in four different kinds of ways:
Warriors - have strong bodies, vigorous physical energy and a sharp intellect. Warriors tend to develop the skills that take advantage of their inherent gifts of stamina, courage and vigor. Their mentality is one that is not averse to taking physical risks. Examples of people in our society with the warrior mentality include: Policemen, firemen, soldiers, professional athletes, skilled carpenters and tradesmen, etc. They all achieve success through their physical skills and a deep understanding of their profession. Michael Jordan is an excellent example of a member of the warrior class.
Intellectuals – have a more developed intellect than the warriors, but generally lack the physical strength and vigor. Intellectuals are happiest when they try to achieve success by developing and expressing their intellectual skills and talents. Examples would be: Teachers, writers, professors, scientists, artists, musicians, philosophers, doctors and lawyers, and above all, priests.
Acquisitors - have a nose for money. If money can be made the acquisitors will find a way to make it. They are not as bright as the intellectuals, nor as strong as the warriors, but they are keen when it comes to making and accumulating money and material possessions. Such people are the traders, businessmen, managers, entrepreneurs, bankers, brokers, and landlords in our society.
Laborers - are altogether different from the first three groups. Laborers lack the energy and vigor of the warriors, the keen intellect of the intellectuals, and the ambition and drive of the accumulators. In spite of the fact that their contribution to society is profound – in fact, society could not function without them – the other groups generally look down upon and tend to exploit them. The laborers are the peasants, serfs, clerks, short order cooks, waiters, janitors, doormen, cabdrivers, garbage collectors, truck drivers, night watchmen and factory workers who keep society running smoothly by working diligently and without complaint.
Social Classes and Social Cycles
Groups of each type of people make up the social classes in society. Under this theory, classes are not divided by income level, but rather by disposition. In any society, it is the warriors who defend the nation and keep the peace; intellectuals develop religion, art, law and new inventions; acquisitors manage the farms, factories, financial institutions and stores; and the laborers do the routine work – waiting tables, collecting trash, and other low-tech, low skill jobs. As should be evident, each class contributes something vitally important to society, and society could not function without all the classes working together in harmony. Unfortunately, not all classes are rewarded equally according to their contributions. Furthermore though all exist simultaneously in society, at any given time only one of the four classes is the dominant class and therefore rules society. (The laborers, however, never rule – more on this later.)
